Maths Lesson. Lent Day 24

In a stroke of hilarity I am sitting in a maths revision lesson. The boys have work prepared for them and a very professional video to watch made by one of their maths teachers. I am literally just pressing play. 

I am, however, listening to what is being taught and it is literally giving me a slightly hysterical panic attack.

I suppose this is a valuable lesson in empathy. I think standing up in front of a whole lot of people and talking to them is as easy as getting dressed in the morning. Doing the simplest maths sum, however, would literally be physically impossible for me. Even if I had a gun held up to my head. 

Some of my students probably feel like that when I make them perform a monologue in class. I must remember this.

On The Third Day...

Tonight approximately 2020 years ago an anxious man went for a walk in a garden. If you have a garden maybe you too  just took yourself out for some reflection time to make sense of the announcement that the South African lockdown has been extended for a further two weeks. The man was facing the unknown. He was facing something he knew he had to do, something he knew would change the entire destiny of humanity. He knew that he was going to make the hugest sacrifice of all to save the lives of mankind. You too know that this has to be done, you do not have a choice in this and your sacrifice of personal freedom will potentially save the lives of thousands. Dear Sharon

  It was a bad night last night. Gray vomited for most of the night. Stephen silently nursed his impending stomach bug. And at two in the morning I Googled things I shouldn't like - 'Child just had swine flu, now has stomach bug. Low white blood cell count - what does it mean? Is house mould making my child sick? Autoimmune disorders. Symptoms for lupis'.  Early this morning, before the sun rose, I emailed my various bosses to tell them I would not be coming in to work today. Due to various commitments in the past three weeks I wasn't able to nurse Gray through his tonsillitis that then developed into swine flu. I worked Sundays and every weekday til 22.00. It's a busy time in my job and I sucked it up.  But this morning I just knew I couldn't leave Gray sick at home one more time.
